With their permission, I am assigning this as our first lab as well. Please complete Lab 1 - Intro to ArcGIS from the Geog176b lab page and turn it in at the beginning of class next week.   1. The beginning the lab concerns printing and computer use in the geography lab. These are not relevant to our class, so scroll down to "Copying Data", below these initial passages.
  2. There are questions in orange boxes on the tutorial. Please consider the questions but you do not have to answer the questions in your lab. You might write out the answer to these questions in your notes.
  3. The assignment involves a Word document and a map, described in green box at the bottom of the webpage.

NOTES 1. Unzipping There are a lot of different file formats in this tutorial so make sure you Unzip them all into a single folder so that there's no confusion. If you let them get scattered on the desktop you may have trouble finding them. 2. Connecting to your Data This is an important point because we will be working from a USB key so use this tool to make a direct connection to your USB key which may be drive D: or E: . 3. Producing a PDF if you're exporting to PDF you may find that symbols like the North Arrow are not represented properly in the output. Before saving the PDF click the Format tab and check "Embed document fonts".
